HOPE ON CANVAS

THE ART OF

Robert Hope

Brother.jpg

My Brother

This painting in a way was the beginning of my painting quest.  It is a painting of my brother who died in a plane crash in 1982.

I had been painting abstracts in the beginning and then became inspired by artist such as LeRoy Neiman, Jackson Pollack, Willem de Kooning, Voka and several other artists that used all the vibrant colors of the palette.  I found their works to be exhilarating, gratifying and was extremely excited to try it myself.

So, my brother was my first attempt at painting a portrait in an abstract style or now what I call a combination of abstract realism and expressionism.  Thus, came the name, “Hope on Canvas”.  Jack Hope being my brother was on the canvas and me Robert Hope the artist.
